Pregnancy lasts for about 32 days and the newborn is called a Joey. The best time to see them up close is when the sun is shining! They love to sunbathe and people can often get a close glance at Ozzie our Joey in the Pouch.
Wallabies are closely related to the Kangaroo, but are smaller in size and stockier. Kangaroos have much longer legs!
Wallabies are Marsupials. This means that Females carry their young in pouches.
There are around 30 types of Wallaby who are grouped according to their habitat, for example Shrub and Rock Wallabies. The red necked wallaby lives in shrub covered habitat, eating plant and fruit vegetation. They have distinctive colours such as black noses and paws, grey coats and red shoulders.
Wallabies are very good at hopping, covering vast areas of land foraging for food, however they cannot hop backwards!
