Old Mac thanks generous guests.

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

Free entry on the morning of September 28th. Can that be right? Has Old Macdonald gone mad? Free entry between 10 am and 1 pm, surely not?

Well actually, the answer to those questions is yes, possibly, yes, no! Old Macdonald welcomed a rather unusual guest the other day, Muggy the Macmillan’s Cancer Support Mascot who came down to promote the charity’s very popular Biggest Coffee Morning campaign. And Muggy somehow persuaded Old Mac that on the 28th he would admit everyone free of charge for the morning in return for their making a donation to the Charity Appeal instead of their entry fee.

Then everyone could enjoy the farm for the morning, and of course buy a coffee in the cafe if they wished, whilst supporting an amazing cause. Muggy must be very persuasive, must be his caffeine content, so loads of people rushed down to the farm on the 28th and raised over £ 140 for this very worthwhile appeal. The weather was kind, and we hope everyone had as good a time on the day as we did. From what they were saying, we reckon they did!

This October Half Term, Witch Day Will You Come?

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Halloween is always one of our favourite times of the year, and with the October School Half Term people flock to our farm for a great day out. This year, Old Macdonald, being a generous sort of fellow (yeah, right!) has arranged something special for you each and every day. Normally it would not be true to say that Old Mac spares no expense, indeed he spends no expense if he can help it, but he must have been got at by the Good Witch of the East (or Brentwood East anyway) as he has gone mildly daft to provide very special treats for you all.

For instance, on Saturday 22nd October you can hear the story of “The Very Busy Spider” by Eric Carle, and learn how to make cobweb art and hanging furry spiders…..eech!
Then, on Sunday 23rd you will hear about “The Best Halloween Hunt Ever” by John Spiers and make Trick or Treat Felt Bags.
Monday 24th you will make owl masks and owl hanging decorations, as well as hear about “The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark” by Jill Tomlinson and Paul Howard.
Tuesday 25th you can do pumpkin carving with a special competition in the afternoon, and at lunchtime hear the story, and maybe drink the food, of “Pumpkin Soup.”
Wednesday 26th will be batty, with you making moving, hanging bats and hearing “Daft Bat” by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross.
Thursday 27th you will make paper lanterns in the morning and spooky magnets in the afternoon, whilst lunchtime hear “Meg and Mog Adventures” by Helen Nicoll and Jan Pienkowski.
Friday 28th you will make witches and hear about “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
Saturday 29th is party time, with the making of Bat and Cat masks in the morning and a special Disco with Halloween games, face painting, tattoos and spooky nail decorations from 2 to 4.
Sunday will make bracelets and beads in the morning, hear “Meg and Mog Adventures” by Helen Nicoll and Jan Pienkowski at lunchtime, and finish up by making spooky foam craft pumpkins!

And if that is not enough, all our rides, slides and attractions will have a special halloween feel, and whilst we do not have ghoulies and ghosties and long legged beasties we do have meerkats and goaties and long legged llamas, and many, many things that go bump in the night.

Old Macdonald is counting the days to the Half Term Halloween Festival already. See you then.

October Half Term, Old Macdonald Hits the Road with his Country Fayre.

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

a href=”http://www.omdfarm.co.uk/blog/?attachment_id=905″ rel=”attachment wp-att-905″>

This October Old Macdonald is thrilled to take the pleasure of his farm out to east London so he will be opening Old Macdonald’s Country Fayre in Barking Road Recreation Ground in Newham. Open during the half term week, 27th October to 30th October, each day from 12 noon to 7 pm this is a taste of the country coming to the heart of the east end, and we thank Newham Council for agreeing to host this festival of family fun.

Pay just £1 entry and you can meet and greet your favourite farm characters as well as enjoy the Duck Race, Milking Cow, singing chickens and craft workshops for no extra charge (and the ducks, cow and chickens are not real so do not worry about their health, but they are great fun) as well as take part in craft workshops.

<

Also, Punch and Judy will also be there each and every day, plus Magic Shows on Thursday and Saturday and Puppet Workshops on Friday and Sunday. Great fun, and all part of your value for money £1 entrance. Wonderful traditional show with a 21st Century feel, and a chance for children, and adults, to try out their puppet abilities.

Then, if you wish, you can buy tokens and enjoy lots of fun activities for children and their parents, such as the Wacky worm coaster, Pony Ride, Old Mac’s Tornado, the farm Merry go round, Swan Lake, the farm train and the children’s waveswinger and flying jets. Old Mac has laid on special family rates too so you can either buy tokens for just 50p each or save 25% and buy £25 worth of tokens for just £20.

Plus, every visitor will receive £10 off voucher for a child with a paying adult when they want to visit Old Macdonald’s Award Winning Farm in Brentwood, home of TOWIE and Old Macdonald too. Great value, great fun, see you in Barking Road Recreation Ground. The postcode is E6 2LW and Barking Road is between East Ham and the Barking A406 flyover.

Our two Pet the Animals Weekends have just finished here at Old Macdonald’s Farm and what a wonderful time was had by everyone, not least our tortoises, ferrets, rabbits and skink, Annie the Owl, all of whom had a wonderful couple of days in the summer sun meeting their fans. For those of you who have not been here for a while, we now have the widest selection of Farmyard Friends plus exotic and unusual animals you can find, with the Meerkats, Otters, Wallabies, Rheas added to farmyard favourites and the lovely miniature shetland ponies too.

As a petting farm, with lots of chances for you to get up close to the farmyard friends you find here in Brentwood, we know how much you enjoy the physical contact with our creatures, but Pet the Animals Weekends give you just a little more. For instance our tortoises are normally safely tucked away in their special enclosure, but on a number of occasions each year we let them out for a good run around our specially created enclosure, and whilst World Athletic Championships it might not appear to be, it gets them out of their shell for a while (not literally). As tortoises are an endangered species many people will never have the chance to pick up and hold one, so this is a very special chance indeed. (more…)

One Great Weekend Coming Up in June

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Our sheep, goats, ducks, chickens and pigs will be available for you to meet even closer than usual, and you can learn about farming and cereal crops too as you visit us on that day. We always hope to be educational and fun, and June 7th will be no different, but we will add even more of a flavour of the farmyard to the day and join with our colleagues all around the country so hope you will join us for this special event. You will still find more unusual animals here, such as the Alpacas and Meerkats (and Alpacas are farmed in Britain anyway as you will learn) and have lots to do such as the Adventure Bridges and other entertainments, but learn about farming with us.

Plus there is another reason why you should put us in your diary for Open Farm Day because it coincides with our Local Heroes Day where we welcome staff from the Fire Service, the Police and the First Responders who will come and meet you and let us all climb into fire engines and sound police sirens! More about all this to come soon.

However there is even more for our visitors on this first weekend in June, when the summer will start in earnest (and we hope Ernest does not mind too much) because on June 6th we will enjoy another visit from Mr Punch and his long suffering, but feisty in this version, wife Judy with a modern take on a very traditional show. So come to the farm in June when our superb value for money day out will actually be unbeatable (as is Judy in this show too!)
