Artbound Workshop

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

During this summer at Old MacDonald’s Farm, Mary Martin (school teacher) has been running a series of fantastic art activities for the families and groups visiting. These art workshops are known as ‘Artbound’. Artbound aims to link up projects whilst teaching and helping to develop the creative skills of all age groups. Children have enjoyed making foam animal masks, drawing and colouring. Artbound has been a fantastic success, so keep your eyes peeled for more dates in the future if you have missed out today!

Goodness, it’s Tesco

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Regular readers of this website, should any such people really exist, will know that Old Macdonald does not just have a Farm but also a Zoo because we are very proud members of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA). Now BIAZA have teamed up with Tesco, of whom you may have heard, for a special summer promotion and you have until September 5th to take advantage. You can come and meet our lovely baby Cria (young Alpaca) whilst you are here too.

Lots of things have happened this summer. First of all Tesco have launched their new “Goodness” range of healthy foods and drinks for children and have linked this with free tickets to many of BIAZA’s member zoos, including your favourite here at Old Macdonald’s Farm. All you need do is keep receipts from two separate Goodness products, log on to tescozootickets.co.uk and then claim a free child’s ticket (with a paying adult) to visit one of the zoos, including us! Simples as our Meerkats would say. Now goodness is not something that we here associate with Old Macdonald, and if you look at him healthy food certainly is a stranger to him, but now this offer is going ahead he is eating bananas, grapes, apples and all and skipping around our fields.

They have also published a fun Conservation Comic which tells you lots about wildlife and the world and which includes fun and games too and quizzes with the chance to win some fabulous prizes including a holiday in the USA. Some of the quizzes are so easy we could do them ourselves.

Then, all of this is linked to the newly released film Zookeeper, and not a lot of people know this but this film was based on the life of Old Macdonald himself (or so he says). Zookeeper tells the story of a kind hearted keeper named Griffin Keyes (played by Kevin James) who is wonderful with animals but not so good with people. Griffin falls in love and the animals decide to talk to him and tell him how to win the heart of his true love. Now Old Macdonald also talks to his animals about the love of his life, which is his wallet, and they tell him how to make more money. Not so sure about the kind hearted bit but when you look at the pictures below of Griffin and Old Mac it is true to say that it is hard to tell them apart!

See, could be identical twins could they not?

Amongst the many stars who have roles in this family film are Leslie Bibb who plays Stephanie, Adam Sandler as Donald the Capuchin Monkey, Sylvester Stallone as Joe the Lion and Cher as Janet the Lioness. Lots of fun and laughs and you can visit www.zookeeper-movie.com to find out more.

The Tesco offer ends on September 5th but you have all the way up to September 30th to use your vouchers here at Old Macdonald’s Farm so get shopping for healthy food options and tell your friends too. This is a great offer from a superb value for money shop and gives you healthy eating and a great day out for all the family. Get shopping!
