Spring Babies and Fun Animal Facts

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

As you are all aware we are fast approaching spring time, which is an exciting time of year for all the staff on the farm. Some of the spring babies born already include “Kune Kune” piglets.

The ‘Kune Kune’ pig, once near to extinction, is one of the smallest breeds and known for being very hairy and spotty. They have tassels below their jaw known as ‘Piri Piri’ tassels as well as stumpy legs, big pot bellies and short upturned noses. The name ‘Kune Kune’ means ‘Fat and Round’ and was given by the Maoris People in New Zealand which is thought to be their place of origin. They are a very intelligent and playful breed and love all the attention they get from the children and adults who visit.

Our website now has a fantastic, educational, ‘Fun Animal Facts’ page where you and your family can learn all about these brilliant animals before you visit.
