As the leaves turn golden brown and all start falling down (how poetical is that? Not very really!) Old Macdonald has gone marginally mad with his Autumn Value for money ideas and special plans for family days out in September and October. Perhaps it was the summer sun we enjoyed here or perhaps it was the wonderful response we had from all (or nearly all) our summer visitors but he has had a rush of generosity of spirit which is frankly not like the miserable old farmer he can sometimes be!
First of all he has run around the farm planting Ladybirds, and not the sort who will fly away home but special ones from the Saffron Building Society which all contain a small cash prize for the lucky children who find them, and some of which include a special winner’s voucher too. If you take this £1 to your local Saffron Building Society Branch they will magically turn this into £5 when the children open an account. Old Macdonald has been down there will a pile of pound coins but they think he is too old to benefit! Secondly he is organising our annual Catapult Pumpkin competition ready for the October School Half Term with the final on Halloween itself, and all you need to enter is to bring a pumpkin during the half term week when firing starts from 1 pm each day. No entry fee, just turn up. Alternatively you can carve a pumpkin sculpture with the chance of winning a fabulous prize of a Nintendo Wii! Told you Old Macdonald has gone daft, with such a generous prize!
Do not forget that during the autumn the Roller Coaster only opens weekends and during school holidays and also has a one metre height restriction, but you still get great value here at the farm.
Finally to prove my suspicion of his sanity, he is now letting you book online for Halloween and for Christmas with superbly large discounts for booking for these periods! So with these added to the Meerkat pups, otters, owls, wallabies and all your farmyard friends no wonder Old Macdonald’s Farm is the best value for money day out you can find in Essex or east London.
