Our two Pet the Animals Weekends have just finished here at Old Macdonald’s Farm and what a wonderful time was had by everyone, not least our tortoises, ferrets, rabbits and skink, Annie the Owl, all of whom had a wonderful couple of days in the summer sun meeting their fans. For those of you who have not been here for a while, we now have the widest selection of Farmyard Friends plus exotic and unusual animals you can find, with the Meerkats, Otters, Wallabies, Rheas added to farmyard favourites and the lovely miniature shetland ponies too.

As a petting farm, with lots of chances for you to get up close to the farmyard friends you find here in Brentwood, we know how much you enjoy the physical contact with our creatures, but Pet the Animals Weekends give you just a little more. For instance our tortoises are normally safely tucked away in their special enclosure, but on a number of occasions each year we let them out for a good run around our specially created enclosure, and whilst World Athletic Championships it might not appear to be, it gets them out of their shell for a while (not literally). As tortoises are an endangered species many people will never have the chance to pick up and hold one, so this is a very special chance indeed. (more…)

They boast about their being the most popular attraction for our visitors. And now to cap it all their cousins in the Kalahari are starring in what will be the must watch film of the year, called, not very originally to be honest, “Meerkats”. Narrated by the late great Paul Newman this film follows a Meerkat family for a year, showing their trials and tribulations. Read on for the review by the Daily Mail journalist Amanda Cable but above all come and visit us and meet our Meerkats, with their cubs, their family structure, and their fascinating family support network here at Old Macdonald’s Farm.
