As Others See Us- So will you see us this Spring?

The great Scottish Poet, Robert (Rabbie) Burns, whose life is being celebrated this year on the 250th anniversary of his birth, wrote, “O wad some Power the gift tae gie us, to see oursels as ithers see us! ” which translated (by me to make it rhyme) means “If someone gave the gift to free us, to see ourselves as others see us.” Well thanks to the Internet we can relate how others see us, with the following article and the photos above from the website of the Royal Association for the Deaf. Read on and see why we are so pleased with the wonderful day out they enjoyed, and we hope other school parties and community groups will come and have an enjoyable, and educational, time too.

Now Spring and the weather, touch wood, is good, come and see us and enjoy a great value day out in the Essex Countryside, just outside London.

Old MacDonald’s Farm, South Weald – Saturday 19th April 2008
I have never been to Old MacDonald’s Farm before, so this was a new experience for me as well as the families that attended. In all there were about 20 of us! We all met in the car park; it was lovely to see some old faces, people I haven’t seen for a while! We were given our map of the farm and all the children knew where they wanted to go first, the amusements and rides. We did however; encourage them to visit the animals first! There was lots to see, starting with the new born reindeer; very sweet. Then it was the pigs, goats, ducks and some owls. We also met some animals I have only ever seen on TV, or in pictures, the Alpacas, beautiful looking creatures with thick woolly fur, which they needed as it was a very cold day! There were so many animals, if I listed them all I’d be here all day. The children loved the train ride. It was great as we had the whole train to ourselves at one point. They all jumped about on the bouncy slides and trampolines and then the carousel. It started to get even colder so we decided it was time to go inside for a coffee and some lunch. After lunch the children all went wild on the indoor adventure play area, before we headed back outside for more fun, games and rides, the best being the ‘Crazy Worm’. By 3.00pm it started to rain so we all called it a day, said our goodbyes until the next event. It was a great day; everyone really enjoyed the wide range of animals and rides.

Following a very enjoyable visit to Old Macdonald’s Farm on 4th April I would like to say a big “thank you” on behalf of ourselves at Surestart in Willesden and our parents and carers to all your staff for their great hospitality.
The wide range of attractions made for a fantastic day out. We have had a lot of good feedback from both children and adults and would definitely recommend the farm for future visits.
    Thank you once again.
