Joseph’s Challenge to Colchester Garrison

fouryearold1.jpgcatapultinair.jpgSince Old Macdonald’s Farm boss Joseph Manning gave all children from Services Families the opportunity to visit his popular Farm in Weald Road, Brentwood free of charge, the response has been excellent. Now he has issued a challenge to Colchester Garrison for this coming year. “During the summer four year old Charlotte Ekub won our competition to create the most innovative idea from recycled materials when she designed the amazing Tractorpult, a tractor with a giant catapult on top, all from scrap. She won a free family pass for a year, and for Halloween we actually built this and then fired Pumpkins down the farm at a Witchy Target. Now we challenge the services to build an alternative fun “weapon” to have a target competition at the Farm for February half term we will use this to raise money for both our chosen Charity Starlight, who grant wishes for seriously ill children, and a Services Charity of the Garrison’s choice. “The only rule is that this must be built using scrap materials, and must be capable of throwing a giant vegetable weighing up to 4 lbs 100 feet down the farm. It is just for fun but we know that the Garrison can meet this idea; after all, our Catapult was designed by 4 year old Charlotte and built by us, so with the Services’ expertise and imagination, they can match this! They can build this on the farm itself and can come in and out as often as they like to do this, or if they prefer build it in Colchester and drive it down to the farm to install it!”

Joseph says that he admires so much the sacrifices that our service people make, and also their families who are separated from their loved ones for so long, and wants to give something back. “We are proud to give free entry to the children from the Services, but are open to all new ideas from Colchester and other Service Garrisons on how we can do more, so get in touch with us here at Old Macdonald’s Farm,” he says.
